EDC Opportunities For Success
Hands-on special education academic instruction
Hands-on-learning is characterized as, learning by doing. Students are likely to receive and retain information better when they can relate to a subject, when it is personally meaningful. Hands-on learning engages students of all ages in multiple modes of learning.
EVIDENCE-BASED TIERED BEHAVIOR SYSTEM
EDC’s Tiered Behavior System reinforces the importance of positive interactions and behaviors among staff and students while stressing the use of rewards, incentives, effective consequences for concerning behavior, and accurate, useful data for measuring student progress.
GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
Group and individual Counsleing aid in helping our students to learn how to handle their emotions, identifying triggers and providing coping tools. All students at EDC receive individual counseling sessions at a minimum of once per week. Group Counseling is also provided within the classroom.
Social and emotional learning
EDC incorpoartes Social Emotional Learning as part of our curriculum. Through self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making, SEL helps students of all ages to better understand their emotions, and demonstrate empathy for others.
sensory room and aides
EDC’s sensory room is a therapeutic space with a variety of sensory items that provide students a safe place to calm and focus themselves, using their individual coping skills.
Individualized support
EDC provides 1 to 1 support for students identified as needing additional support throughout the school day, in assisting with academics and behavioral goals.
